BCV4 - Fast Subsystem Cloning Print
DB2 Products

Subsystem cloning no longer requires tying up valuable DB2 experts with a time consuming, tedious job that takes many hours or even days to complete. Get a zero RC every time and enjoy the luxury of having an automated and scheduler driven process. BCV4 makes “push button cloning” a reality. And best of all, go from start to finish in minutes not days.

BCV4 Automates Cloning DB2 and IMS Subsystems

BCV4 is a software tool for duplicating DB2 and IMS subsystems, running under the z/OS operating system. It sets the standard for creating subsystem clones for purposes such as: SAP Homogeneous System Copies, PeopleSoft test environments, and general DB2 applications testing. BCV4 supports 'single' and 'shared' environments, and is compatible with copy services, such as, native ADRDSSU, Flashcopy, Snapshot, ShadowImage, etc. BCV4 clones complex systems, including combined IMS/DB2 installations, in record time. It fully automates the whole process: renames datasets, changes VTOCs and VVDS', creates new catalogs, recatalogs all files, and adjusts the new DB2 to its datasets.

  • BCV4 has become the preferred solution for creating SAP / DB2 and Peoplesoft / DB2 test environments.
  • BCV4 is key tool used by IT staff to prepare for DB2 upgrades, for example, going from Version 8 to Version 9

BCV4 Offers Substantial Benefits

Easy to install and use: the specialist selects from a list of cloning configurations and after that moves through a series of intuitive definition steps. Only required information that BCV4 cannot find by itself is solicited from the user.

  • For each cloning project, BCV4 creates a job stream that goes from start to finish, and best of all, can be run through the company scheduler or under operational staff manual control. After the first job is submitted, all other jobs follow as their predecessors finish. Of course, it is also possible to submit each job manually.
  • Rest assured that each and every step necessary to clone a DB2 subsystem are included in the job chain. Avoid the pitfalls of labor intensive and error prone tasks that can come back to invalidate days of hard work.
  • Once set up, a clone definition may be re-used as often as desired. For subsequent uses, eliminate the need for extra setup time and expert DB2/IMS input. Reduce DB2 cloning to one “push of a button.”

In Summary

  • Avoid labor intensive and error prone manual work.
  • Reduce DB2 clone creation from days to minutes.
  • Clone DB2 subsystems in a 24x7 environment.
  • Eliminate the need for system downtime
