Meet UBS Hainer at IDUG NA 2026 in Atlanta, October 25–29!

UBS Hainer will be in Atlanta for IDUG North America 2026, which officially opens on Sunday, October 25, and concludes on Thursday, October 29. If you go, be sure to stop by our booth and say hi!

We’re also proud to announce that Kai Stroh will hold a presentation: “Why Fast Db2 for z/OS Copies Get Harder: The Impact of Newer Features on Copy Speed” during the 9 AM session on Thursday, October 29.

Fast copies of Db2 for z/OS tables are inreasingly difficult as newer features add structural complexity. Table versioning, partition growth and rotation, XML and LOB data, temporal and archive relationships, and deferred VSAM creation can prevent direct dataset-level copies and force slower fallback methods. This technical session explains the key challenges and what they mean for copy speed and reliability.

Key Takeaways include:

  • Understand why making fast copies of Db2 for z/OS tables is more complex than simply copying VSAM datasets
  • Learn how ALTER TABLE changes and multiple active data versions can create REORG requirements before a fast copy can safely proceed
  • Recognize when direct dataset-level copying is possible and when structural differences force fallback processing, such as UNLOAD/LOAD
  • Discover when partition-level VSAM copying can make sense, and when it cannot be done
  • Understand the impact of Db2 features such as DEFINE NO, XML, LOB, temporal tables, archive-enabled tables, and partition-by-growth tablespaces on fast table copies
